A sword with a purpose

Share

“Summer of the Sea Serpent”

Mary Pope Osborne

This book is about Jack and Annie on an adventure to find the sword of light and answer the ancient question, “What is the purpose of the sword?”

Some of the adventures included meeting the water knight, whose horse was blue and had a fish tail. He helped them get back to the shore from deep water. They also met the huge spider queen, who had eight legs and eight eyes. She helped them get out of the cave by making a web ladder.

Jack and Annie found the sword of light deep in the third cove. Merlin the magician wrote on a seashell a rhyme for Jack and Annie to solve the ancient question. Jack remembered Merlin’s earlier rhyme, “Answer the question with love, not fear.” To find out the answer, read the book.

“Walter the Warlock”

Deborah Hautzig

This is a fiction story about a warlock. He has been chosen to compose a special song for a Halloween Midnight Ball. He was really excited -- until Daddy Warlock told him to do a magic spell instead. Walter wanted to write a song himself, but he also wanted his father to be proud of him. Can he find a way to do both? To find out, you can read this book. I like this book because I love Halloween. This book shows how Walter got an idea to write his song. In this book, I learned that ideas are everywhere.

“Sharks”

Gail Gibbons

I liked this story because there are different kinds of sharks. Some sharks have a lot of teeth. The biggest is the whale shark. There are about 350 sharks. Read the book to find out more about them.
