Re “Brightly painted home prompts debate in earth-toned La Palma,” Aug.31
Regarding the La Palma residents who object to their Lebanese neighbor’s gold-and-red house, my guess is that the real issue is not the color of the house but the skin color and culture of the owner. Rex Hand puts his finger on the objectors’ prejudice when he laments: “I don’t want my neighborhood looking like some other country. I want it to look like the United States.”
Wake up, La Palma. This is the United States. It’s a multicolored, multicultural world, and that’s to be celebrated, not bemoaned.
