Giants finish sweep of Diamondbacks
SAN FRANCISCO -- Eugenio Velez hit a two-out, two-run triple in the ninth inning and the San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-3, Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. It was Arizona’s sixth loss in a row and its 10th straight on the road.
Bengie Molina started the Giants’ comeback with a one-out single off reliever Brandon Lyon. Pinch-runner Ryan Rohlinger moved to second when Aaron Rowand walked with two outs before Velez hit an 0-and-2 pitch to the gap in right-center to drive in Rohlinger and Rowand.
It was the second straight game-winning hit for Velez, who had an RBI single in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 5-4 win over Arizona.
The Diamondbacks took a 3-2 lead Wednesday in the top of the ninth on a two-out, two-run triple by Chris Young.
“It was a horrible road trip, no question about that. But we aren’t going to give up,” Young said.
