A man was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of manslaughter after he allegedly ran a red light on Sunset Boulevard, spurring a four-car collision that killed a taxi driver.

Avishkar Padhye, 29, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, said Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Padhye was driving a BMW south on Highland Avenue about 2:30 a.m. when he ran the light at Sunset Boulevard and hit the taxi on the driver’s side, authorities said.

The collision sent the BMW and taxi careening into two other cars, apparently killing the cab driver on impact, an LAPD spokeswoman said.

The cab driver was identified as Karen Karapetyan, 33, of Garden Grove, French said.

Another person was hospitalized with minor injuries, he said.
