Inge leads Tigers’ six-run rally to defeat the Rangers

at Detroit 6, Texas 4: Brandon Inge hit a home run and a two-run single in a six-run eighth inning, and the Tigers rallied to complete a three-game sweep. Carlos Guillen also had a two-run double for Detroit, which trailed, 4-0, after seven innings. Rangers right-hander Kevin Millwood threw seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out six.

at Cleveland 8, Toronto 4: Anthony Reyes became the first Indians starter to pitch six innings, Travis Hafner and Mark DeRosa each hit a home run and Cleveland avoided its worst start in 95 years. The Indians lost their first six games in 1914. The Blue Jays had scored a major league-high 42 runs in winning five of six games.

at Chicago 6, Minnesota 1: Jim Thome hit a two-run home run to break open the game, and Mark Buehrle (1-0) gave up a home run to Delmon Young in the second inning and then retired 15 consecutive batters before being pulled with one out in the seventh inning.

at Kansas City 6, New York 4: John Buck homered and drove in three runs to help the Royals avoid a three-game sweep. Joakim Soria earned his third save by striking out the side in the ninth. Joba Chamberlain held the Royals to three runs -- one earned -- and four hits in six innings.

Seattle 1, at Oakland 0: Erik Bedard (1-0) gave up three hits pitching into the ninth inning, and Mike Sweeney doubled in a run in the seventh. Trevor Cahill (0-1) retired 11 consecutive batters before Adrian Beltre singled up the middle with one out in the seventh, breaking up the rookie’s bid for a no-hitter.

at Angels 5, Boston 4: Bobby Abreu hit a go-ahead two-run single, and Vladimir Guerrero hit his first home run of the season for the Angels.
