Falcons, White agree to deal worth about $50 million

After holding out for the first week of training camp, receiver Roddy White agreed to a new contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday night.

Several reports said White had worked out a six-year deal worth about $50 million, including $18 million guaranteed. He will become one of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers, though short of Larry Fitzgerald’s $10 million-a-year deal with Arizona.

White had a career-best 88 receptions and set a franchise record with 1,382 yards receiving last season, ranking fourth in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed first-round draft choice Aaron Curry eight days into training camp.

The No. 4 pick from Wake Forest ran onto the field Saturday afternoon a few minutes into practice. The fans in attendance cheered wildly as Seattle’s new outside linebacker nodded in their direction.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram has a torn ligament in his left knee and is probably out for the season. The team said an MRI exam revealed the torn ACL suffered Tuesday.

Veteran defensive lineman Shaun Smith was released by the Cleveland Browns. Coach Eric Mangini offered few details about his decision to cut Smith, who started 19 games in two seasons with Cleveland and last year was involved in a weight-room fight with quarterback Brady Quinn.

Roddick to meet del Potro in final

Andy Roddick advanced to the final of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic for the fourth time, beating John Isner, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-5, in Washington.

The top-seeded Roddick is a three-time winner of the event. He will face last year’s champion, second-seeded Juan Martin del Potro, who defeated Fernando Gonzalez, 7-6 (2), 6-3, in the other semifinal.

Hardy wins 50-meter free

Jessica Hardy won the 50-meter freestyle at the U.S. Open, narrowly edging Lara Jackson in Federal Way, Wash.

Hardy finished in 24.90 seconds, with Jackson at 24.93. It was Hardy’s third medal of the week. Samantha Woodward placed third with a time of 25.29.

The Italian Cycling Federation says tests on Danilo Di Luca’s “B” sample have confirmed the former Giro d’Italia winner was positive for the banned blood-booster CERA at this year’s race.

Parker returns, France wins

Tony Parker returned from injury to help France beat Finland, 82-72, in a European Championship qualifying match in Pau, France.

The San Antonio Spurs point guard sat out Wednesday’s 80-77 overtime win over Italy because of a right ankle sprain. Parker had wanted to play, but the Spurs brought him back to San Antonio for tests after he was injured in a collision with an Austrian player last month.

Accuser allegedly bragged about sex

The woman suing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for alleged sexual assault has been accused of bragging about having consensual sex with him to a co-worker.

According to court documents filed late Friday, Angela Antonetti said the woman who made the rape claim “did not appear to be upset, stressed-out or nervous” about her time with the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback during a 2008 celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe.

Antonetti made the remarks in a sworn statement attached to a motion to move the case from Reno to Minden, Nev.

The NHL has asked a bankruptcy judge to throw out Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie’s bid to buy the Phoenix Coyotes based on the league’s overwhelming rejection of him as a potential owner.
