Aerosmith has canceled its summer tour after band member Steven Tyler fell from a stage last week, breaking his shoulder and cutting his head. The rock group was to have performed Friday at Staples Center in L.A. and the following Sunday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.

“In his current condition, Tyler is unable to tour and the band wants to give him time to get healthy,” a statement from Aerosmith said.

Tyler fell during a performance Aug. 5 in western South Dakota. He was airlifted to a hospital and returned to Boston to consult with his own doctors.

The band said ticket refunds would be available at points of purchase. Meanwhile, ZZ Top, which was to have appeared with Aerosmith, said it would play two other Southland engagements instead: Thursday at the House of Blues-Anaheim and Friday at House of Blues-Sunset Strip. Tickets go on sale today.
