A 32-year-old man was shot to death when he tried to come to the aid of a relative during an apparent burglary at a residence, police said Wednesday.
The incident began shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday when the victim’s 23-year-old relative returned home and found six or more men on the property in the 9700 block of Sunland Boulevard, said Det. Pat Barron of the Los Angeles Police Department. The intruders took the man inside, assaulted him and demanded money, Barron said.
The 32-year-old, who lived in another house on the same property, was alerted to the attack and tried to intervene. One of the assailants shot him in the upper torso, Barron said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police had earlier identified the shooting victim as an employee of the man he tried to assist. The 23-year-old was taken to a hospital and treated for unspecified injuries. The men’s identities were not immediately released.
By the time police arrived at the scene, the assailants had fled in a dark-colored truck and a dark-colored, medium-sized SUV, Barron said.
