CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / ORANGE

Police have arrested a man in Las Vegas and are searching for his mother, both of whom are suspected in the robbery and killing of an Orange man who was last seen Dec. 22.

The body of Matias Ojeda Vazquez, 42, has not been found, nor has his car.

Noel Carrasco, 22, was arrested Monday and is awaiting extradition, said Orange Police Sgt. Dan Adams. Carrasco’s mother, Leticia Carrasco- Ornelas, 48, is also wanted in connection with the case and is believed to be in Las Vegas or Buena Park, Adams said.

Authorities allege that Carrasco-Ornelas lured Vazquez from the La Barca Club in Stanton to the Covered Wagon Motel in Buena Park, where he was robbed and killed.

“We’re not sure what ruse or what they used to get him to the motel,” Adams said.

And though Vazquez’s body has not been found, police said evidence and witnesses indicate he was killed.

“We’re trying to work with the suspect,” Adams said. “We’re trying to find the car, we’re not sure if the body is with the car or on the way to Las Vegas in the desert.”
