Fighting mad
It’s unfortunate that The Times has recently chosen to increase the space dedicated to promoting mixed martial arts (or as I like to call it, “human cockfighting”).
As a boxing fan, I could envision a combat-type sport that pits one discipline against another and that’s an interesting prospect. The reality of modern MMA however is something quite different. It’s evolved (devolved?) into a carnival of steroid-pumped street toughs kicking each other in the head and punching each other while down. Oh yeah, don’t forget the arm breaking. That’s always good for a howl from the beer-soaked masses too.
Why don’t we just fast-forward 25 years right now and give them weapons? People would love that.
