Sol clinches title berth

SANTA CLARA, CALIF — . -- Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc made three saves Thursday to preserve a 0-0 tie for the Sol against FC Gold Pride.
More important, the tie clinched the regular-season title for L.A. in the inaugural season of Women’s Professional Soccer. It also means the Sol has a spot in the league’s championship game Aug. 22 at the Home Depot Center.
The Sol improved its league-best record to 11-2-5 (38 points) with two regular-season games left.
“We are delighted to win the WPS regular-season title,” Sol Coach Abner Rogers said. “We have had a great five months and are very happy to have won for the city of Los Angeles and our great fans.”
