“The Most Beautiful Place in the World”

Ann Cameron

A young boy named Juan lives in San Pablo, Guatemala. Next to San Pablo are seven different cities and a lake. Every day, Juan goes to the lake. His main problem is his mother, who has gotten married. His new stepfather doesn’t want Juan to live with them. Juan doesn’t like his stepfather because he treats him badly. The stepfather ignores him. I understand how Juan feels because, I, too, have been mistreated: My brother insults me! I would recommend this book to anyone and I would read this book again. Even though it was sad, Juan still went to school and did his best.

“Call Me Hope”

Gretchen Olson

Hope suffers from a bully. She can’t even turn to her mom, because her mom is the bully.

Hope has problems with her mom and learns that she suffers from verbal abuse. Verbal abuse is when a person says mean things to you. She spends most of the time in her room trying to avoid her mom. To pass the time she makes a chart. Read the book to find out what chart she makes and what the points mean. And read the book to find out if Hope’s mom changes.

This is the most thoughtful and beautiful book I have ever read. You should really, really, really read this book.
