Albert Pujols’ home runs lead Cardinals

St. Louis 12, at Kansas City 5: Albert Pujols hit two home runs and had six runs batted in, giving him three home runs and 10 RBIs in the Cardinals’ three-game sweep. It was the 2,500th victory for Tony La Russa, who joined Connie Mack (3,831) and John McGraw (2,763) as the only managers with that many victories.

at San Francisco 3, Texas 2: Barry Zito (4-7) didn’t give up a hit until Andruw Jones’ two-run home run in the seventh inning and Randy Winn hit a go-ahead single in the bottom half of the inning to help the Giants complete a series sweep.

Tampa Bay 10, at New York Mets 6: B.J. Upton hit a home run and matched a career high with four RBIs for the Rays. Upton and teammate Evan Longoria each had four hits.

at Chicago Cubs 6, Cleveland 2: Randy Wells (1-3) pitched into the seventh inning for his first major league win and Jake Fox drove in three runs. Chicago’s Derrek Lee extended his hitting streak to 18 games.

Toronto 9, at Washington 4: Lyle Overbay drove in five runs, Ricky Romero (4-3) gave up two runs in seven innings and the Blue Jays ended the Nationals’ winning streak at four games.

at Boston 6, Atlanta 5: Nick Green hit a home run just inside the foul pole in right field on the first pitch from Jeff Bennett (2-4) in the ninth inning. It was Green’s fourth home run this season.

Florida 6, at New York Yankees 5: Hanley Ramirez and Cody Ross each hit a home run and the Marlins held off a late rally by the Yankees, who have lost four of five. New York starter CC Sabathia left in the second inning because of tightness in his left biceps.

Chicago White Sox 4, at Cincinnati 1: Mark Buehrle (7-2) pitched seven shutout innings to improve to 19-6 in interleague play, including 15 victories in his last 17 starts against National League teams.

at Detroit 3, Milwaukee 2: Brandon Inge hit a three-run home run, Justin Verlander (8-3) pitched into the eighth inning and the Tigers swept a three-game series.

Houston 4, at Minnesota 1: Wandy Rodriguez (6-6) earned his first victory since May 20 and Jeff Keppinger had three hits for the Astros.

at San Diego 4, Oakland 1: Kevin Correia (4-5) carried a shutout into the seventh inning and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a two-run home run.

at Seattle 3, Arizona 2: Tony Clark dropped a routine throw to first base, allowing Ronny Cedeno to score the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning.

at Colorado 5, Pittsburgh 4: Clint Barmes homered, drove in two runs and scored two, and the Rockies won for the 16th time in 17 games. The Rockies are 18-5 under Manager Jim Tracy, who took over when Clint Hurdle was fired.

Dodgers 5, at Angels 3: James Loney hit a two-run home run and the Dodgers won two of the three Freeway Series games.
