Update: Chivas USA (0-2-0, zero points) is not exactly dead yet in the eight-team SuperLiga tournament, but the dirt pile is ready and so are the shovels. In order to avoid first-round elimination, Coach Preki’s team not only has to defeat San Luis (1-1-0, three points) by two goals or more tonight in Carson but has to hope that the Chicago Fire (2-0-0, six points) defeats Tigres UANL (1-1-0, three points) in Bridgeview, Ill., earlier Saturday. Any other scenario would end Chivas’ participation. Preki bolstered his team this week by acquiring Canadian national team midfielder Kevin Harmse from Toronto FC in exchange for allocation money. Harmse will not be eligible to play any SuperLiga games.
