Get set for a new Society

Society for Rational Dress, a 5-year-old line designed by San Fernando Valley native Corinne Grassini, kicks into high gear this month with its private-label collection for Barneys Co-Op -- featuring rayon mini-tunics and scoop-neck tanks with leather details ($158 to $163) -- and an appearance on the GenArt runway to kick off L.A. Fashion Week. Grassini is also launching the Reserve, an appointment-only store open to the public, on Saturday.

The Reserve, in Grassini’s Downtown Arts District studio, will feature a special collection of “green” garments made from remnant fabrics and surplus trims, with prices starting at $55 for a T-shirt and $250 for a dress. The store will also carry the label’s signature leather harnesses ($950), reinterpreted past-season designs ($40 to $230) and a selection of footwear including jazz flats ($150 to $250).

“We want the store to be a green way to lessen our waste as a company,” Grassini says. “We already had the space. And with a lot of retail accounts having trouble, we can better connect with our customer.”
