Portland overpowers Pepperdine
Nik Raivio scored 16 points Saturday night to lead Portland to a 69-45 victory against Pepperdine in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference tournament at Las Vegas.
Portland (19-11) opened the game on a 16-2 run, including a pair of three-point baskets from Raivio and Jared Stohl, to earn a spot in today’s semifinals against St. Mary’s.
Portland led 36-16 at halftime and limited Pepperdine to eight points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to build a 30-point advantage.
Pepperdine (9-23), which beat San Francisco, 93-85, on Friday, made only six of 28 shots in the first half Saturday and shot 26% for the game.
Santa Clara 80, San Diego 69 -- John Bryant had 24 points and a tournament-record 27 rebounds to lead the Broncos to victory. Santa Clara will play top-seeded Gonzaga today.
