Method Fest fetes Bogdanovich

While actors are the true stars of the Method Fest Independent Film Festival, Peter Bogdanovich will share the spotlight as he receives the Method Fest Auteur Director Award tonight.

Also tonight, the drama “Adam,” starring Rose Byrne and Hugh Dancy, screens at the Regency Agoura Hills 8. Named for the Method acting technique, the festival, which continues through April 2, features several premieres, including “A Deal Is a Deal” and “Cat City.” www.methodfest.com.

Femmes festival

Established and emerging female directors are celebrated at the fifth annual Reel Film Festival for Women, which begins Friday at the Laemmle Music Hall with “Falling for Grace,” a romantic comedy written and directed by Fay Ann Lee, who also stars.

Pinter weekend

The late playwright and screenwriter Harold Pinter gets a tribute from American Cinematheque this weekend at the Egyptian Theatre. In a solemn note, the event opens tonight with his 1990 adaptation of Ian McEwan’s “The Comfort of Strangers,” which stars Natasha Richardson, who died earlier this month. Rounding out the double bill is the rarely seen 1973 version of his legendary play “The Homecoming,” starring Paul Rogers, Vivien Merchant (Pinter’s first wife) and Ian Holm.

Pinter’s deliciously perverse 1963 black comedy “The Servant,” directed by Joseph Losey, screens Friday along with the 1963 version of “The Caretaker,” starring a young Robert Shaw and Alan Bates.

Pinter and Losey teamed for the 1970 romantic drama “The Go-Between,” with Bates, Julie Christie and Oscar-nominated Margaret Leighton, which unspools Saturday with the 1964 drama “The Pumpkin Eater,” starring Anne Bancroft in an Oscar-nominated turn and Peter Finch.

Anniversary time

The Aero Theatre is throwing a 25th-anniversary party for the sci-fi fantasy film “The Last Starfighter” Friday. Director Nick Castle and costar Catherine Mary Stewart will attend. The Matrix Anniversary Marathon is on tap Saturday in celebration of that series’ 10th anniversary.

And “A Nightmare on Elm Street” marks its 25th year on Sunday with director Wes Craven attending. www.americancinematheque.com.
