Work out, hang out

Share

There are so many exciting ways to practice fitness, but workout clothes are often stuck in some 1990s cardio dance class.

Inspired by a typical L.A. woman’s weekend wardrobe, Bebe introduces PH8, a sportswear collection that can easily transition from Pilates class to coffee date at Intelligentsia.

Tara Poseley, PH8 brand president who was formerly with the Gap, was clued in on how women’s fitness needs have changed. Instead of wearing a sports tank and stretch pants for spin class and then changing into day wear, women need clothes that can go from yoga to lunch at the farmers market.

“She’s going to Runyon Canyon for a hike, then shopping,” Poseley says, imagining the typical PH8 customer’s lifestyle. “She can layer up and layer down to go with her day. PH8 is beautiful weekend fashion with an infusion of sport.”

“I wear workout clothes over a pair of skinny jeans and boots to work,” Poseley adds.

The PH8 collection each season will glean style ideas from the catwalks (exposed zippers, cutouts) but at Bebe’s specialty boutique prices, ranging from $19 to $139. Some ready-to-layer looks include pullovers in a funnel-neck sequin ($54) or a Lurex V-neck ($79) that can be worn over a long-sleeve ballet-neck dress ($38) or a taffeta bustier ($42) and cutout leggings ($36). Accessories include a chic bib necklace ($42) and a black quilted carryall bag.

On Saturday, PH8 (pronounced “fate”) boutiques are opening in former Bebesport boutiques at Beverly Center, Sherman Oaks Fashion Square, Topanga Promenade, Santa Anita Fashion Park, South Bay and Glendale Galleria.

And if you’re inclined to bike it on neighborhood errands, there will be a drawing held at each of the locations for an Electra Amsterdam bicycle (valued at $650).
