Cal’s Best out at least one game after fall

California star tailback Jahvid Best has been released from a hospital and will miss at least one game after suffering a concussion on a terrifying fall in the end zone.

Best spent the night at Highland General Hospital in Oakland for observation and tests after landing on the back of his head in the end zone and being briefly knocked unconscious in the Golden Bears’ 31-14 loss to Oregon State on Saturday night.

The school says results from a CT scan and X-rays came back normal. Best will not play Saturday against Arizona. His status for future games will continue to be evaluated. This was the second straight week Best suffered a concussion.

Best has 16 touchdowns and 867 yards rushing this season.

LSU’s Scott is out

Louisiana State running back Charles Scott has a broken collarbone and will miss the rest of the regular season.

Scott was injured in the second half of the Tigers’ 24-15 loss to Alabama on Saturday. Scott leads LSU in rushing with 542 yards and four touchdowns.

Ponder hurt

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder has a separated right shoulder and will miss the Seminoles’ next game, against Wake Forest on Saturday.

Ponder injured the shoulder of his throwing arm while making a tackle in the fourth quarter during a 40-24 loss to Clemson on Saturday. Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel is expected to replace Ponder.

Nevada rolls

Colin Kaepernick ran for 115 yards and three touchdowns to lead Nevada to a 62-7 victory over host San Jose State on Sunday.

Vai Taua had 138 of his 144 yards rushing in the first half and scored a touchdown as the Wolf Pack (6-3, 5-0 Western Athletic Conference) won its sixth straight.

Jordan La Secla threw for 226 yards for the Spartans (1-7, 0-4).
