Kings crumble in the third period and lose

Henrik Sedin set up Vancouver’s first goal and scored the go-ahead goal 3:54 into the third period, leading the Canucks to a 4-1 victory over the Kings on Thursday night.

Tanner Glass jammed in a rebound just over three minutes later, Kyle Wellwood scored his first of the season into an empty net with 5.3 seconds left, and Roberto Luongo made 31 saves as Vancouver (13-11-0) won for the third time in four games.

Sedin set up Alex Burrows’ goal early in the first period by winning a faceoff in the offensive zone, and did the same to put the Canucks back ahead for good in the third period. After winning the puck back to Alexander Edler for a point shot, Henrik went to the net and cashed in the rebound from atop the crease.

Wayne Simmonds scored for the Kings (14-10-2).

Short on forwards after losing Andrei Loktionov to a dislocated shoulder, the Kings signed center Brayden Schenn to a one-day amateur tryout agreement before the game. He skated with the team during the morning skate at GM Place, then played about 12 1/2 minutes against the Canucks.

Schenn, chosen fifth by the Kings in the June entry draft and a late cut during training camp, on Wednesday played in nearby Victoria for a Canadian junior all-star team in a tournament against a Russian junior team.

With center Jarret Stoll unable to play in the Kings’ 3-1 victory at Edmonton on Wednesday because of an unspecified injury, Schenn zoomed up the depth chart.

Loktionov, 19, had been called up from minor league Manchester (N.H.) on Monday and was injured in his NHL debut Wednesday.
