Sunland-Tujunga Watermelon Festival The juiciest festival kicks off another year with dozens of activities including carnival rides, a petting zoo, free watermelon-eating and seed-spitting contests, clowns, laser tag, waterslides, live music and a vendor village. 48 Hour Film Project If traditional filmmaking is akin to a marathon, the 48 Hour Film Project is a sprint. Teams of intrepid movie makers will each be assigned a character, prop, line of dialogue and genre, all of which must be incorporated into a finished film within two days. Films are due Sunday at 7:30 p.m.; they will be screened Aug. 24-26 at the Laemmle Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica.
