The Cincinnati Reds and Bronson Arroyo agreed to a new contract that added two years through 2013 and $23.5 million in new money.

After a season in which the right-hander won a career-best 17 games, the Reds exercised an $11.5-million option last month. Friday’s agreement adds two seasons and includes deferred money through 2021.

Arroyo was 17-10 with a 3.88 earned-run average in 33 starts last season, helping Cincinnati win the National League Central title. He has made at least 32 starts and pitched at least 200 innings in each of the last six seasons.

The Reds acquired Arroyo and cash from the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Wily Mo Pena in 2006. Arroyo, 33, is 70-60 with a 3.97 ERA in five seasons with Cincinnati.

The Colorado Rockies agreed to a $21.5-million, two-year contract with left-hander Jorge De La Rosa, a deal that includes a player option for 2013 that could raise its value to $32.5 million.

The Chicago White Sox officially announced they had signed slugger Adam Dunn to a four-year, $56-million contract. The White Sox also said free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski agreed to a two-year, $8-million deal to stay in Chicago.

New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez pleaded guilty to attempted assault to settle charges that he attacked his girlfriend’s father at Citi Field after a game in August. The deal spares him jail time but sends him to additional anger management classes.

The University of Kentucky is asking the NCAA to take a second look at the eligibility of freshman center Enes Kanter. The school and the NCAA released a joint statement saying Kentucky has asked for an opportunity to submit additional information about Kanter’s eligibility.

The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff ruled Kanter permanently ineligible last month because he received benefits above his actual and necessary expenses while playing for a club basketball team in Turkey.

Donna Orender, who has served as the president of the WNBA since 2005, is stepping down to launch an independent marketing, media and strategy company. She will continue to be involved with the league as a consultant as the search for her successor gets underway.

“It was simply time for me to take this step in my life,” Orender said in a statement. “My work on behalf of women and girls around the world will only deepen as will my ongoing engagement in sports.”

Orender succeeded Val Ackerman, who was the league’s president for its first eight seasons. Chris Granger, a senior vice president with the NBA, will take over as the WNBA’s interim president beginning Jan. 1.
