Share

INDEPENDENCE BOWL

When: Monday, 2 p.m. PST.

Where: Shreveport, La.

On the air: ESPN2.

About Georgia Tech (6-6): As usual, the Yellow Jackets had no trouble using their triple-option offense to pile up gaudy rushing statistics. Georgia Tech led the nation with an average of 327 rushing yards per game. But the Yellow Jackets struggled to stop opposing offenses — especially down the stretch. Four of Georgia Tech’s final five opponents — Duke was the lone exception — scored at least 27 points.

About Air Force (8-4): The Falcons have thrived this season in the talented Mountain West Conference. Quarterback Tim Jefferson runs Air Force’s triple-option attack well, helping the Falcons rank second nationally in rushing yards per game at 317.9. The offense is so different from what most college football teams run, Air Force startled Oklahoma and nearly upset the Sooners before eventually losing, 27-24. The Falcons swept their two biggest games of the season against rivals Navy and Army, claiming the coveted Commander-in-Chief’s trophy for the first time since 2002.
