Tim Tebow to start again for Broncos

Tim Tebow has earned another start in the Denver Broncos’ season finale against the San Diego Chargers.

Interim Coach Eric Studesville said Tebow will get better with every snap he takes and his education will continue with a third consecutive start.

Tebow posted his first NFL win Sunday when he rallied the Broncos from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to a 24-23 win over the Houston Texans at Invesco Field.

Although Tebow is unpolished, the raw rookie’s passion was praised by teammates and opponents alike after he guided Denver to three touchdowns and a field goal on the Broncos’ four second-half possessions. They had trailed 17-0 at halftime.

Redskins’ Joseph is arrested

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Joe Joseph was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Monday, less than 24 hours after making his NFL debut.

Vincent DiBenedetto, a spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Leesburg, Va., said Joseph was booked about 3 a.m. after deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident shortly after midnight.

Hours earlier, Joseph and the Redskins had returned from Jacksonville after a 20-17 overtime win. Joseph played as a reserve in his first game as an active member of an NFL roster.

Joseph, 25, joined the Redskins’ practice squad Dec. 15 and was promoted to the main roster on Saturday. He spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie from the University of Miami and was a member of the New York Giants’ practice squad earlier this season.

He was later released on his own recognizance. Authorities did not know if he had an attorney.

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said he was still learning the details of the incident and would make a statement after he has spoken with Joseph.

Whitehurst will probably start for Seahawks

Charlie Whitehurst is expected to be Seattle’s starting quarterback on Sunday when the Seahawks play the St. Louis Rams for the NFC West title.

Coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks will plan on Whitehurst being their starter Sunday night. But he wasn’t ready to rule out Matt Hasselbeck, who left Sunday’s 38-15 loss to Tampa Bay after running for a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Hasselbeck suffered a strain in his lower back that did not allow him to return.

Hasselbeck underwent an MRI exam and additional tests Monday morning and the results were positive enough that Carroll remained somewhat optimistic.

“It’s something [that] may be manageable. It may be,” Carroll said. “The MRI results were not such where he doesn’t have a chance. They were very hopeful that he has an opportunity to get back, but we won’t know for days.”
