Without Ryan Getzlaf, Ducks beat the Flyers, 5-2

Things could be a little hairy for the Ducks for however long they have to play without captain Ryan Getzlaf.

But they shook off the big hole in their lineup and didn’t buckle against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night, taking a 5-2 win at the Honda Center even after allowing a 3-0 lead to shrink to one.

Jason Blake scored two goals in his first multiple-goal effort in more than a year, and defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky scored two goals as well — the second one the 100th of his 10-year career.

“Getz is our captain and best player. We have to play more hard right now,” Visnovsky said.

The Ducks had a 3-0 lead only 5:58 into the second period against a Flyers team that showed signs of weariness after defeating the Kings at Staples Center on Thursday. It was also a Flyers team without Chris Pronger, the former Ducks defenseman who is out because of foot surgery and has yet to play in Anaheim since the 2009 trade.

With Friday’s game veering out of control, Flyers Coach Peter Laviolette called a second-period timeout and got the response he wanted seconds later when Andreas Nodl scored on a one-timer from the left circle at 8:15.

Then, early in the third, the Ducks’ Corey Perry made what looked like a crucial mistake when his pass onto the stick of the Flyers’ Jeff Carter ended up in the Ducks’ net.

The three-goal lead had shrunk to 3-2 only 3 1/2 minutes into the final period.

Perry slammed his stick on the crossbar after the goal, but on the next shift, he carried the puck hard down the right wing board and helped set up a goal by Bobby Ryan that broke the tension at 5:40 of the third, giving the Ducks a 4-2 lead.

“I gave the puck away on that one. It’s definitely frustrating, but we went out and got it back,” Perry said.

Ryan broke a seven-game streak without a goal with his 15th of the season, raising his eyes toward the rafters in what looked like relief.

With Getzlaf out indefinitely because of injuries suffered when he was hit in the forehead by a puck Tuesday, Ryan has moved to center from left wing, with Perry on the right and Matt Beleskey joining the pair on the first line.

“He’s a big hole to fill, that’s for sure, but there are guys who can step it up,” Perry said. “Perfect example tonight: Jason Blake and Saku Koivu played really well tonight and created a lot of things.”

Koivu, Teemu Selanne and defenseman Toni Lydman each had two assists.

Add a huge unofficial one to Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller, who made 35 saves, including a big glove save on Scott Hartnell as the Flyers tried to come back in the third.

Hiller also picked up an official assist on Blake’s first goal, playing the puck behind the net to spark a breakaway when Lydman fed the puck to Blake. It was the fourth assist of Hiller’s career.

“He played great,” Blake said.
