Critic’s pick: ‘Double Indemnity’

Most people go for mush on Valentine’s Day. Me, I can’t wait for the second half of the Egyptian Theatre’s Sunday night double feature, “Double Indemnity.” Begin with “We’ll always have Paris . . . “ That’s “Casablanca” at 7:30 p.m., in which love derailed and denied has never been better. But stay to see the psychosis of want and need laid bare on the big screen in Billy Wilder’s classic noir. There is a double-entendre to be found in nearly every line of Barbara Stanwyck’s seduction of Fred MacMurray’s insurance agent, the mark she’ll rely on to off her troublesome spouse, with Edward G. Robinson chilling as MacMurray’s suspicious boss.
