New York hipsters deal: Room + fashionable discounts for $299

The Thompson LES takes hip seriously. In a piece examining rock bands rooted in the Lower East Side, the hotel’s Room 100 magazine dubs recording artist Moby the area’s “unlikeliest of elder statesmen.”

OK, I get that this Manhattan hotel understands the area’s HQ (hip quotient). So it’s no wonder that one of its room packages, starting at $299 per night, comes with discounts at local boutiques and stores — especially for those who might need to get their sartorial mojo going.

The deal: Although $299 (plus tax) isn’t cheap, even by Manhattan standards, I like this Holiday for the Hipsters package, and not just because of the cool factor (which is high, design-wise) and the fantastic location. I was sold by the 10% room discount, free cocktails for two at the hotel’s Shang bar and the 10% to 25% shopping discounts at clothiers Earnest Sewn, G-star Raw, Foley + Corinna and others. When: Good for stays Nov. 21 to Dec. 30, subject to availability.

Tested: Because this is a holiday package, I went straight for spending Christmas in New York. I found a king superior room online for $233 plus tax per night from Dec. 24 to 27 — actually lower than the advertised rate. How cool is that. The same room on the same dates went for a non-package rate of $259 a night and more than $300 a night at other times of the year (prices don’t include tax).
