L.A. Fashion Week events

Los Angeles Times

This season, the string of fashion-focused events clustered around L.A.’s market week — which takes place Oct. 15 to 19 downtown — stretches across nearly two weeks and sees the departure of at least two familiar names (GenArt and BOXeight, which is shooting for an early November timetable for its usual photo-shoot presentation) and the inevitable addition of some not-so-familiar ones. Among them:

Concept Fashion Week (Oct. 14-17)

In its sophomore outing, the little fashion week that could fields an opening night party and three nights of runway shows and presentations at the Spring Arts Tower, 453 S. Spring St. in downtown Los Angeles. By invitation only. Schedules, participating designers and additional information available at https://www.conceptfw.com/.

Sue Wong (Oct. 15)

Call her a “fashion week of one.” For the second season, Sue Wong opens her 6th Street atelier to the media, bloggers and celebrity guests for an evening to showcase a collection for spring and summer 2011 that takes its inspiration from “the iconic glamour goddesses of the pre-Cold War era.” By invitation only. https://www.suewong.com.

L.A. Fashion Weekend at Sunset Gower Studios (Oct. 15-17)

The Gallery Los Angeles returns to Sunset Gower Studios with a slate of swim-themed group shows scheduled for Friday night, an eco-fashion theme Saturday afternoon and a group show Saturday night. The weekend ends with Sunday night’s catwalk collection from Richie Sambora and Nikki Lund’s White Trash Beautiful label. By invitation only. losangelesfw.com.

Exchange LA (Oct. 20)

A relatively late addition to the calendar, its full title is “Exchange LA + Cotton Inc. present Anthony Franco, Skingraft and Ashton Michael” — which pretty much sums up the three-label, one-night runway showcase scheduled to unspool at the recently renovated Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building at 618 S. Spring St. All three lines are L.A.-based and will be showing men’s and women’s collections for spring and summer 2011. By invitation only. For additional information e-mail assistant@emprds.com.

Project Ethos (Oct. 22)

The only fashion week event that’s routinely open to the general public, Project Ethos returns to the Avalon (and neighboring Bardot) with its party-showcase of art, music and fashion. Additional information — including participating designer and ticket information — can be found at projectethos.com.

WCM Los Angeles Fashion Week (Oct. 20-25)

Another new entry on the fashion-go-round this season, this partnership between World Coast Management and LA Production Studios has scheduled three days of runway shows sandwiched between a party (on the first night) and a trade-show format designer exhibit (on the last night) at 1025 E. 16th St. By invitation only. Schedule and a list of participating designers is online at https://www.lafashionweekofficial.com.
