Chris Dufresne’s Play It forward

1. The Southeastern Conference will have only one undefeated team left next weekend after Louisiana State (7-0) plays at Auburn (7-0). But Louisiana State, remember, won the Bowl Championship Series title in 2007 with two losses.

2. Oklahoma, which moved up three spots to No. 3 in the USA Today coaches’ poll Sunday, puts its undefeated season on the line at undefeated Missouri. In 2007, Oklahoma knocked Missouri out of the national title game with a late-season victory.

3. Alabama, which lost its No.1 spot after an Oct. 9 loss at South Carolina, had a nice bounce-back win against Mississippi and next plays at Tennessee. The Volunteers would have shocked the Crimson Tide last year in Tuscaloosa if not for the two field-goal tries blocked by Terrence Cody.

4. Saturday’s home loss to Texas severely damaged Nebraska’s national-title hopes, but the Cornhuskers don’t have time to wallow with a big trip this week to Oklahoma State. The Cowboys improved to 6-0 with a victory over Texas Tech.

5. With Ohio State’s loss, Michigan State (7-0) has the inside track in the Big Ten Conference race. The Spartans have three tricky road games left, starting this week at Northwestern. Michigan State also plays at Iowa and Penn State.
