Update: With France’s Thierry Henry sidelined because of a knee injury and Mexico’s Rafael Marquez not match fit, Colombian forward Juan Pablo Angel comes into the game as New York’s most influential player. Much will be made of the duel between Landon Donovan and Marquez, a rivalry stretching back to their encounters as members of the U.S. and Mexico national teams, but Angel against a makeshift Galaxy defense could be the key. Los Angeles is without starting center backs Gregg Berhalter (injured) and Omar Gonzalez (suspended), and the combination of Dane Richards’ pace, Mehdi Ballouchy’s skill and Angel’s finishing ability could unravel the Galaxy back line. Donovan and Angel are in top form. The former leads the league in assists with 14 and the latter is second in MLS in goals scored with 12, two behind the Galaxy’s Edson Buddle. Los Angeles won, 1-0, at New York in August.
