Rondo’s triple-double leads Celtics past Spurs, 105-103

Rajon Rondo had 22 assists, 12 points and 10 rebounds for his 11th career triple-double, adding six steals to help the Boston Celtics beat the San Antonio Spurs, 105-103, on Wednesday night in Boston.

It’s the first time this season that the Spurs (29-6), who still have the best record in the NBA, have lost consecutive games.

Ray Allen scored 31 points for Eastern Conference-leading Boston (27-7), but he missed a pair of free throws with 8.1 seconds left and the Celtics up by two. After a timeout, Manu Ginobili worked down the clock and put up a shot that was blocked by Paul Pierce and pulled down by Rondo for his 10th rebound.

Glen “Big Baby” Davis had 23 points — one short of a career high — playing in place of the injured Kevin Garnett. Rondo’s 22 assists were the second-most in his career; he had 24 in an Oct. 29 game against the New York Knicks that was his only other triple-double this season. His six steals were a season-high and one off his career-high.

Ginobili had 24 points and eight rebounds for San Antonio. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker had 18 points apiece for the Spurs, who were coming off a 128-115 loss to the Knicks in New York on Tuesday in which Coach Gregg Popovich pulled his three stars with more than three minutes left, down by just 11.

Atlanta 110, at Utah 87: Joe Johnson scored 28 points, making five of seven three-point shots, and Jamal Crawford added 26 off the bench as the Hawks won their third in a row on the road. Deron Williams and Andrei Kirilenko each had 19 points for the Jazz, which played without second-leading scorer Paul Millsap (bruised hip).

at Orlando 97, Milwaukee 87: Dwight Howard had 28 points and 13 rebounds, and the Magic held off the injury-depleted Bucks for its seventh straight victory. Milwaukee, which lost for the seventh time in 10 games, played without three of its five top scorers — guard Brandon Jennings (broken left foot), guard Carlos Delfino (concussion-like symptoms) and forward Drew Gooden ( plantar fasciitis in his left foot).

at New Jersey 96, Chicago 94: Sasha Vujacic made the tiebreaking basket with 5.3 seconds left as the Nets ended a losing streak at five games. Guard Devin Harris appeared to be attempting a lob pass to center Brook Lopez, but the ball was knocked to Vujacic, who put it in for his 13th point. Derrick Rose then missed a long jumper and the Bulls’ winning streak was over at five games. Rose had 21 points but just one assist.

Toronto 102, at Cleveland 105: Andrea Bargnani scored 25 points, Leandro Barbosa added 22 and Jose Calderon had a season-high 17 assists to help the Raptors win in Cleveland for the first time in 12 games. The Cavaliers, who led by 15 points after the first quarter, lost their eighth in a row and 18th in 19 games. Antawn Jamsion scored 32 for Cleveland, outscored 94-69 over the final three quarters.

at Philadelphia 109, Washington 97: Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams each scored 26 points and the 76ers returned from an eight-game trip to beat the Wizards, who fell to 0-17 on the road. Elton Brand had 17 points as Philadelphia beat Washington for the first time in three games this season.

Golden State 110, at New Orleans 103: Monta Ellis scored 29 points and the Warriors used a 27-7 run in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter to overcome a 10-point deficit. Stephen Curry had 21 points for Golden State. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 24 points, but was scoreless for the first 11 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Portland 103, at Houston 100: LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points to help the Trail Blazers overcome a 45-point game by the Rockets’ Kevin Martin. Courtney Lee’s shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim for Houston.

Charlotte 108, at Minnesota 105 (OT): Tyrus Thomas had 21 points and 11 rebounds and the Bobcats rallied from eight points down in the final three minutes of regulation to win in overtime. D.J. Augustin scored eight points in the final 2:08 of regulation to tie the score as Charlotte ended a road losing streak at nine games. Kevin Love had 35 points and 15 rebounds and Michael Beasley had 28 points and 12 boards for the Timberwolves, who turned the ball over five times in overtime.
