Washington rallies past Oregon State, 103-72

Matthew Bryan-Amaning had 24 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and No. 23 Washington beat Oregon State, 103-72, Saturday.

“Everyone looks at the way we have been scoring, and that’s because we run,” Bryan-Amaning said. “But the only reason we run is we get stops. Contest the shot, rebound and push it.”

Jared Cunningham led visiting Oregon State (7-8, 2-2 Pacific 10 Conference play) with 21 points. Roberto Nelson had 15 points.

Washington (12-3) is 4-0 in the Pac-10 for the first time since winning its first six in 1984.

The Beavers led, 37-28, in the first half but Washington closed out the half with a 12-2 run.

The Huskies kept it up after halftime, opening with a 16-2 run before Beavers Coach Craig Robinson called a timeout to regroup with 16 minutes 5 seconds left. Bryan-Amaning had eight points during the surge.

Washington shot 64% in the second half, scoring 75 points over the last 23:25 for its 11th consecutive win over Pac-10 opponents. That is the Huskies’ longest streak since the league expanded from the Pac-8 in 1978.

“We took a huge shot from Oregon State in the first half,” Coach Lorenzo Romar said. “They came out very aggressive, very physical, scrappy.”

The Huskies blocked 10 shots and had nine steals. They began the game with a nation-leading 8.3 steals per game.

California 65, at Arizona State 61: Jorge Gutierrez scored 21 points and the Golden Bears (8-7, 1-2) used aggressive rebounding to offset 38% shooting and avoid its first 0-3 Pac-10 start in 11 seasons.

Cal had 18 offensive rebounds.

Ty Abbott had 18 points for the Sun Devils (8-7, 1-3).

at Washington State 77, Oregon 63: Klay Thompson had 16 points and Reggie Moore had 15 for the Cougars (12-4, 2-2). Moore sparked a 10-0 first-half run with a three-point basket and four free throws.

The Ducks (7-9, 0-4) have lost six games in a row.

Stanford at Arizona, ppd.: The game was postponed because of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tucson. It will be played Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
