Nordstrom broadens shopper loyalty program

Share

In a bid to garner customer loyalty, luxury retailer Nordstrom Inc. is expanding its reward program to make it easier for shoppers to earn extra perks.

The update halves the minimum purchases required to qualify for its four-tier loyalty program, with benefits that include early access to sales and up to $100 of free tailoring for every member.

The more customers shop, the more fringe benefits they’ll earn.

Shoppers who want to climb to Level 3 of the rewards rung, which entitles them to 24-hour concierge service, will need to spend $5,000 annually on their Nordstrom credit or debit cards (they previously had to spend $10,000).

Those coveting Level 4, the highest loyalty status, will need to shell out $10,000, down from $20,000. That earns loyal shoppers the right to private shopping parties thrown at their preferred Nordstrom and tickets to fashion shows, among other perks.

Nordstrom has been aiming to bring a broader range of shoppers into the fold as the economy continues its slow recovery. Other tactics have included opening more Nordstrom Rack outlet stores and buying online discount site HauteLook Inc. last year.

“Fashion Rewards is a key part of our efforts to provide better service and build long-term relationships with our customers,” Kevin Knight, president of Nordstrom Credit, said in a statement.
