Brewster address book app reveals Ashton Kutcher’s information

Brewster, an address book app that launched Thursday to a lot of hype, had a bug that exposed the contact information of actor Ashton Kutcher.

The embarrassing bug was discovered on Friday, just Brewster’s second day.

Brewster pulls information from users’ various social sites, address books and Gmail accounts, with their permission, to compile an enhanced address book.

The app, which is exclusive to iOS at this moment, didn’t just expose Kutcher. Brewster also left the personal info of several entrepreneurs out in the open. Among them were Dave Morin, Path’s co-founder, and Tristan Walker, Foursquare’s former director of business development, as well as Naveen Selvadurai, Foursquare’s cofounder.

As reported by TechCrunch, some users said they were able to see the information of people they shouldn’t have been able to. It’s not clear how many everyday Joes were left exposed.

One of the users who found the problem gave Brewster a heads-up.

Brewster founder Steve Greenwood told TechCrunch that he believes the issue has been resolved.

“There were bugs we had yesterday, this was one we took very seriously. We must have fixed it,” Greenwood told TechCrunch.

While Greenwood’s words are reassuring, the tone in the quotes published by TechCrunch make it seem like he’s not 100% certain.
