Cirque du Soleil says ‘Ka’ performances will resume Tuesday

Performances of Cirque du Soleil’s “Ka” will resume on Tuesday at the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas, 17 days after an aerialist fell to her death during a performance of the popular show.

Cirque has scheduled one performance per day of “Ka” through Friday; starting July 23, “Ka” will resume its usual two-shows-per-day schedule, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Sarah Guillot-Guyard, 31, died after falling 90 feet during the final part of the performance. The Clark County coroner’s office ruled that she died from multiple blunt-force trauma and that the death was accidental. An investigation led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to take six months to complete.

A Cirque spokeswoman said that performances of “Ka” no longer will feature the sequence near the end of the show during which Guillot-Guyard experienced her fatal accident June 29. The sequence, which has been described in reports as an aerial battle scene, is being replaced by another scene to keep the show’s 90-minute running time, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Earlier this month, Cirque said that Guillot-Guyard hadn’t slipped out of her harness before her fatal accident.

“Ka” performances were canceled immediately after the June 29 death. The show is one of several Cirque productions running in Las Vegas.
