Sarah Horn’s duet with Kristin Chenoweth racks up wicked YouTube hits

How has Sarah Horn’s life changed since she was randomly plucked from the audience at the Hollywood Bowl last Friday and brought onstage to sing an impromptu duet with her idol, Kristin Chenoweth?

For one, type “Sarah” into YouTube’s search box and the (until recently) completely unknown vocal instructor from Riverside is the second name, Web-wide, that pops up (after Sarah McLachlan, before Sarah Silverman!).

The now-viral video of Horn and Chenoweth performing the song “For Good” from the musical “Wicked” has racked up more than 2 million views on YouTube so far.

Onstage at the Bowl, Horn more than held her own beside Chenoweth, belting out the song with stage presence, vocal depth and polish. She blew the audience away; at one point Chenoweth gasped: “Holy crap! Harmony!

Horn is now finding herself in the throes of a sudden press blitz that has included appearances on “Inside Edition,” NBC online, KPCC Radio, most of L.A.’s local TV news outlets and an interview with Musical Theatre Magazine. She wrote an account of the episode that was posted on BroadwayWorld.com.

All of which Horn calls “a blended smoothie of overwhelming awesomeness.”

With an eye toward more live performance opportunities, she’s now searching for the right entertainment lawyer and agent -- but that’s the part Horn is taking slowly, she told Culture Monster.

“I don’t want to rush into anything. I want to make wise decisions, not impulsive decisions,” she said. “I want to ease in and find the right people.”

If anything, however, the recent media frenzy has made Horn appreciate the quiet, “normal” moments in her life. She hopes to use her instant fame to encourage others to pursue their performing dreams, she says. “However that can be reached -- through teaching or performing -- that will be my path.”

Still, Horn has a shoot-for-the-moon wish list of how her career path could unfold. It includes a coveted appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and more live performing in L.A., particularly at the Pantages Theatre.

“And I’d love to be invited to sing at the Hollywood Bowl,” she adds. “Paul Geller [Hollywood Bowl production director] has sent me a few emails. I’m actually going back there this Friday to see John Williams.”

Might Horn be called back onstage for another impromptu round?

“No, no, no no no!” she says. “I’m just going for the enjoyment of it all. To be a spectator again.”
