New Line’s “Annabelle” crossed the $200-million mark at the box office worldwide.
The R-rated horror film, which opened in the U.S. and Canada the first weekend of October, has pulled in $206.2 million worldwide. The gross outside of the U.S. and Canada is an estimated $126.7 million to date, making it the No. 1 film overseas.
“Annabelle” follows the haunted doll from “The Conjuring,” which in July 2013 cast a spell over audiences and opened to about $41.5 million in the U.S. and Canada. It ended up grossing $318 million worldwide.
In the U.S. and Canada, “Annabelle” opened to about $37.2 million, slightly behind David Fincher’s “Gone Girl.” It opened at No. 1 in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Panama and Venezuela. After two weekends atop the box office in Brazil, it fell to No. 2.
The film broke records this weekend in Mexico, where it grossed $11.7 million for the country’s biggest opening for a horror film and third-best opening this year, behind “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Transformers.”
