TV ratings: ‘Mind Games’ soft for ABC; NBC wins demo again

A lower Tuesday “Voice” helped NBC win the night among key 18- to 49-year-olds, while CBS had more viewers overall. Meanwhile, ABC saw a lackluster launch for its new series “Mind Games.”

According to early numbers from Nielsen, the first Tuesday episode of “The Voice’s” sixth season drew 13 million viewers and a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That represents a 10% decline in 18-49 from night two of “The Voice” a year ago, though it was up 4% in total viewership.

With “The Voice” as its lead-in, a rerun of NBC’s “About a Boy” premiere earned a 2.4 in the key demo, better than the original post-Olympics airing on Saturday. The “Growning up Fisher” rebroadcast posted a 2.0 in 18-49, the same number it garnered after the Sochi Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday. “Chicago Fire” notched a 1.8, flat with its last original episode.

In 18-49, a ratings point equals roughly 1.3 million viewers.

The NBC prime time lineup beat CBS, Fox and ABC in the 18-49 age group, though CBS had more people watching overall, averaging 13.6 million.

“NCIS” drew 16.9 milion viewers, followed by “NCIS: Los Angeles” with 13.1 million, making them the two most watched shows. Both saw double-digit percentage declines in the demo from their last originals (to a 3.1 and 2.8, respectively). “Person of Interest” also fell from its last new episode to a series low of 1.7.

After “The Bachelor,” ABC aired another weak debut with its new drama “Mind Games.” Starring Steve Zahn and Christian Slater, the series opened with 3.6 million viewers overall and a 1.1 in 18-49. That’s better than ABC’s most recent attempt in the time slot, the low-rated “Killer Women,” but still not promising.

The second night of a two-part “The Bachelor” brought in 8.1 million viewers and a 2.4 in 18-49, down slightly from Monday night’s episode.

Fox’s “Glee” returned in its new 8 p.m. time slot up 9% from its last original in 18-49, but still low at a 1.2 rating and a total audience of 2.9 million. “New Girl” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” came back from a week off, each up 8% to a 1.4 and 1.3, respectively.

The CW’s “Supernatural” nabbed a 1.1 in 18-49 and 2.4 million people watching, while “The Originals” had a 0.8 and 1.9 million.
