The Skinny: When do I have to start caring about the NBA playoffs. I’m trying but I’m just not feeling it yet. In the news today is Warner Bros. plan to sell tickets to “Man of Steel” at Wal-Mart. Also, did “American Idol” try to dump Mariah Carey and bring back Jennifer Lopez.

Daily Dose: Jim Rome is missing in action in Los Angeles. Rome, whose popular radio show used to be on KLAC-AM (570), has yet to find a new home here since joining CBS earlier this year. Rome, who is based in Los Angeles, is now carried by CBS Radio, and he also has a TV show on CBS’ Showtime. But CBS doesn’t own a sports radio outlet in Los Angeles yet, and it hasn’t been able to strike a deal with any of the other sports radio stations in town. Word is it that may be a while until Rome resurfaces in his home market. In the meantime, learn to love Jay Mohr, his replacement on KLAC.

Captain America’s coming. Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” won’t be outsourced. Though 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” was shot mostly in Britain for tax reasons, the bulk of sequel is being shot in Los Angeles. This is huge for Southern California because these days many productions are shooting out of state or out of the country. The Los Angeles Times on Captain America’s homecoming.

Attention Wal-Mart shoppers. Next time you’re at Wal-Mart stocking up on peanut butter, you may be able to score tickets to the Superman movie “Man of Steel.” Warner Bros. has struck a deal with the retail chain to help promote the movie by selling tickets to early screenings. “You hear these staggering numbers of how many people walk through a Wal-Mart every day, and that gives us an exposure that we really can’t put a dollar number on,” Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution told the New York Times. Additional coverage from the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times.

Operation Bambi II? Did the folks behind “American Idol” consider dumping Mariah Carey in order to bring back Jennifer Lopez this season? According to the Hollywood Reporter, that plan was in the works until Carey’s lawyers squashed it. Fox said the story was just another ridiculous rumor, and Carey’s team and “American Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe denied that there was any such plot. Lopez is scheduled to return for the season finale of “American Idol.”

Tough market. Next month, the broadcast networks will unveil their fall schedules to advertisers, who will then decide how much to spend on the shows in what’s known as the upfront market. Already the tough talk is starting as some key advertising executives said there won’t be big spending increases this time around. Besides declining ratings, more money is being spent on digital platforms as well as cable. The New York Post with an upfront preview.
