Weekend box-office estimates for ‘Man of Steel’ raised

Warner Bros.’ “Man of Steel” is now expected to bring in $115 million in its opening weekend, which is much more than earlier estimates of $90 million to $100 million.

The new estimates are based on ticket presales and sales and that have come in so far. The new Superman movie opened nationwide Friday.

The film, produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder, is expected to take in $45 million on Friday alone.

With “Man of Steel,” the first Superman film in seven years, Warner Bros. is hoping to have a blockbuster that launches a new franchise for the studio.

Reviews have been mixed. The movie currently has a 59% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film, starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, posted solid numbers for screenings Thursday, totaling $21 million. It made $12 million from special screenings Thursday and $9 million from midnight runs, according to Hollywood.com.
