‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ ‘American Hustle’ among makeup, hair winners

“American Hustle,” “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Behind the Candelabra” were among the winners of the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards, set for Saturday evening at the Paramount Studios Theatre.

Candance Neal and Robert Stevenson won for best contemporary hairstyling for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” while Donald Mowat and Pamela Westmore earned the trophy for contemporary makeup for “Prisoners.”

Kathrine Gordon and Michelle Johnson won the prize for period and/or character hairstyling for “American Hustle,” and Robin Mathews won the guild award for makeup in that category for “Dallas Buyers Club.”

Stephen Prouty and Tony Gardner won for special makeup effects for “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.”

On the TV side, Marie Larkin and Yvette Stone won for period and/or character hairstyling and Kate Biscoe, Deborah Rutherford and Hiroshi Yada for period/and or character makeup in the television miniseries or motion picture made for television category for “Behind the Candelabra.”

Greg Nicotero and Jake Garber earned the guild honor for special makeup effects for “The Walking Dead”; Shawn Finch and Jerilynn Stephens won for best contemporary hair styling for “The Voice”; and Tarra Day and Sheila Trujillo Gomez won for contemporary makeup for “Breaking Bad.”

Dee Corcoran won in the period and/or character hairstyling category for “Vikings,” and Michele Paris took home the period and/or character makeup honor for “Boardwalk Empire.”

Darren Jinks, Samantha Wootten and Brandi Strona won in the theatrical productions [live stage, live theater] category for “Magic Flute,” and Tyson Fountaine and Brian Penikas earned the award in the contemporary makeup category for a commercial for Delta’s “Wash the Day Away.”

Johnny Depp won the Distinguished Artisan Award. Dick Smith, who was unable to attend, received the Make-Up Artists Lifetime Achievement Award, and Gail Ryan was the recipient of the Hair Stylists Lifetime Achievement Award.
