Family friend identified in Usher stepson’s boating accident

A family friend is under investigation after a boating accident critically injured Usher’s 11-year-old stepson from a previous marriage and reportedly rendered the boy brain-dead.

Atlanta resident Jeffrey S. Hubbard struck Kyle Glover, the son of the “Scream” singer’s ex-wife Tameka Foster, while on a jet ski as the boy floated on an inner tube attached to a pontoon boat on Georgia’s Lake Lanier on Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Hubbard had rented the jet ski and boat with Foster and her son.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police told the paper.

Kile and the 15-year-old girl who was floating with him on the inner tube were airlifted to an Atlanta hospital. Usher joined Foster at the hospital, where the former couple stayed the night.

“Tameka and Usher don’t get along, but in this circumstance Usher is coming to her side,” a source told Us Weekly. “Usher practically raised Kyle as his own. He’s known him for seven years. It is so sad what happened.”

Adding his voice in virtual support, Justin Bieber, Usher’s most famous mentee, tweeted Monday: “my prayers go out to @tamekaraymond and their whole family. keep them in your thoughts.”

Kile was still in critical condition Monday afternoon, the Journal-Constitution said, while sources told TMZ that no brain activity had been seen since his arrival at the hospital. The girl was in stable condition with a cut on her head and a broken arm, MTV News reported. The boy’s father is Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover.

Though their divorce was finalized in 2009, Usher and Foster have been locked in a bitter, years-long battle over custody of their two sons together, Usher V and Navyid.

Usher did get some good news Monday, TMZ reported: A woman who has allegedly been stalking him at his Georgia home and claiming to be his wife was hit with a one-year restraining order preventing her from coming near him or his kids.
