The new trailer for Luc Besson’s sci-fi epic “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” has been released and it gives fans their first real look at the eye-popping world of “The Fifth Element” director’s upcoming project.

Based on the French comic book series “Valerian and Laureline” created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mezieres, the film stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as a pair of special time-traveling government operatives tasked with maintaining order through the universe.

DeHaan’s Valerian attempts to woo Delevingne’s Laureline and develop relations beyond their professional partnership, but Laureline seems less than interested in his romantic overtures. Fans can see a bit of that dynamic play out in the 90-second glimpse of the movie.

“We get on just great. You flirt. I smile,” Laureline tells Valerian, just before the teaser cuts to a scene in which she punches him across the face. Clearly, they get along great.

The trailer is set to an a cappella version of the Beatles’ “Because,” giving the “Valerian” world a bit of an ethereal feel. This marks the first time a Beatles master has been licensed for use in a movie trailer.

The vivid images also reveal a few colorful aliens that will be featured in the film, as well as a quick tease of Rihanna’s character.

The film also stars Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu.

“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” is scheduled to hit theaters July 21.
