Green Day to resume touring in March

Share

Green Day, sidelined since late September, will return to the touring circuit in early 2013. The rock band unveiled on Monday a host of live dates, its first since leader Billie Joe Armstrong was admitted to rehab in the fall.

Green Day’s return to the road is now scheduled to begin on March 28 with a show at Chicago’s AllState Arena. Only dates through early April were revealed. They include stops in Pittsburgh (March 31), Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 7) and Toronto (April 11). A statement from the band said West Coast dates will be announced in early 2013.

In September, Armstrong revealed that he was headed to rehab following an onstage meltdown at Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. The band was forced to cancel or postpone all dates through the remainder of the year, as well as those scheduled for January and February.

In a statement, Armstrong acknowledged the loyalty of Green Day fans.

“Dear friends,” read a statement attributed to the singer, “I just want to thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and I’m eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I’m getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on.”

Armstrong’s trip to rehab came just as the band was ramping up promotions for an ambitious plan to release three albums in the span of a few months -- “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!” and “¡Tré!” Combined, the three albums have sold 484,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
