Sally Struthers, the “All in the Family” and “Gilmore Girls” actress who’s also known for her pleading public service announcements, was arrested early Wednesday in Ogunquit, Maine, on suspicion of drunk driving.
The 65-year-old Emmy winner, who has been starring in a production of the musical “9 to 5,” was stopped around 12:30 a.m., taken into custody and charged with criminal operating under the influence, Ogunquit police told the Portland Press Herald.
A cooperative Struthers posted $165 bail and was released, the paper said. Her run in “9 to 5” at the Ogunquit Playhouse, which opened Aug. 23, closes Saturday night.
Struthers is due in Maine’s York District Court on Dec. 13. In Maine, conviction on a first offense with no aggravating factors draws a penalty of $400 plus a 90-day license suspension, but no jail time.
[Updated, 4:25 p.m.: Struthers’ rep released a statement to several outlets, including TMZ, saying, “Sally is working and she is fine and she loves The Ogunquit Playhouse and her yearly time in Ogunquit. We deny these charges.”]
