Keira Knightley, Robert Zemeckis to appear at Cinematheque

Oscar season means hopefuls in the race for the trophies make their faces seen around town, and that doesn’t mean just for film academy voters or the press. Case in point: Actress Keira Knightley and director Robert Zemeckis both have films that have great awards potential and both are making in-person appearances at the American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre in the next week.

On Sunday, the Cinematheque is screening “Flight” as part of a multi-film tribute to Zemeckis’ work, and the filmmaker himself will be there following the 7:30 p.m. screening. Other Zemeckis films being screened include past Oscar-winners “Back to the Future” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” as well as a free screening of “Cast Away.”

Knightley received an Oscar nomination for her first collaboration with director Joe Wright in the 2005 film “Pride & Prejudice” and a BAFTA award nomination for their second film, “Atonement.” Their latest film, “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s novel, has received mixed reviews so far, but a girl can always dream for another nomination, can’t she?

Knightley will be appearing with Wright following a 7:30 p.m. screening of “Anna Karenina” on Dec. 5th and before a screening of “Pride & Prejudice.”
