Directors Guild Awards sets schedule, adds two more awards
The Directors Guild of America has announced the schedule for the 66th DGA Awards and says it will be adding two new awards and including programs created for the Internet in eight categories.
The awards ceremony will be held Jan. 25, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
The feature film nominees will be announced Jan. 7; TV and commercial nominations will follow two days later. Documentary nominations will be revealed Jan. 13.
The two newly created DGA Awards are for variety/talk/news/sports -- regularly scheduled programs, and variety/talk/news/sports -- specials.
Programs made for Internet distribution will be eligible in these eight categories: dramatic series; comedy series; movies for television and miniseries; variety/talk/news/sports -- regularly scheduled programming; variety/talk/news/sports -- specials; documentary; reality; children’s programming.
The national board of the DGA also has decided that all dramatic scripted programming, including daytime series, will now be incorporated into the dramatic series award. That means soaps such as “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless” will now be competing with prime-time series instead of having a category of their own.
