Idris Elba: No Limits In the premiere of this unscripted adventure series, actor Idris Elba (“Luther”; “The Wire”) attempts to break Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Flying Mile record. Three new episodes follow. 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Discovery

Houdini & Doyle Doyle, Houdini and Adelaide (Stephen Mangan, Michael Weston, Rebecca Liddiard) search for a cause — supernatural or otherwise — when nearly everyone in a small town dies mysteriously. 9 p.m. Fox

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular This event marks the 40th anniversary of the New York department store’s celebration of Independence Day. Musical guests include Kenny Chesney, Meghan Trainor and 5 Seconds of Summer. Willie Geist and Tamron Hall host. 8 and 10 p.m. NBC

A Capitol Fourth Tom Bergeron returns to host the holiday concert from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., featuring performances by Motown legend Smokey Robinson, Kenny Loggins, Amber Riley, Gavin DeGraw, Sutton Foster and two winners of “The Voice”: Cassadee Pope and Alisan Porter. 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. KOCE


Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular Conductor Keith Lockhart guides the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in selections traditional and contemporary, culminating in a dazzling display above the Charles River. Yankee Doodle Dandy James Cagney won his only lead actor Oscar for his performance in this feel-good 1942 musical as George M. Cohan, the vaudevillian who gave the United States some of its most memorable music. Joan Leslie and Walter Huston also star. 7:45 p.m. TCM
