The Hour: The drama series set in a 1957 British TV newsroom returns for a new season with Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai, Dominic West and cast newcomer Peter Capaldi (6, 7:15, 9 and 10:15 p.m. BBC America).

Return to Lonesome Dove: Dunnegan (Oliver Reed) tells Newt (Rick Schroder) he considers him a son while Gideon (William Petersen) confides to Clara (Barbara Hershey) that Agostina (Nia Peeples) is Gus’ daughter in a new episode of the western miniseries (8 p.m. Encore).

Supernatural: After Castiel (Misha Collins) tells Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) that he wants to be a hunter too, they agree to join him in investigating a bizarre case: a man who died from his heart literally coming out of his chest, in this new episode (9 p.m. KTLA).

Christmas in Rockefeller Center: The 80th annual tree-lighting ceremony in New York City features performances from Trace Adkins, Mariah Carey, CeeLo Green, Victoria Justice, Chris Mann, Rod Stewart and Il Volo; Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker host (8 p.m. NBC).

A Charlie Brown Christmas: When Charlie Brown complains about the materialism of the holidays, Lucy suggests he direct the Christmas pageant in this animated holiday classic. The broadcast includes the animated short “Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa” (8 p.m. ABC).
