ABC gives full-season orders to ‘Scandal,’ ‘The Neighbors’

ABC has given full-season orders to rookie comedy “The Neighbors” and sophomore drama “Scandal.”

“The Neighbors,” which centers on a family who moves into a block populated by aliens who live as humans, premiered to decent numbers in late September. The Wednesday comedy, paired with the network’s hit “Modern Family,” has been a modest performer.

And though news recently broke that Shonda Rhimes’ “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff “Private Practice” would be ending its run, her other drama got a boost. “Scandal,” which stars Kerry Washington as a political fixer, didn’t already have a full-season order. Its second season was to consist of 13 episodes, but will now see that jump to 22. The drama has had a steady run on Thursday nights, averaging around 8 million viewers and a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 -- not to mention some impressive DVR play.

Still no word on ABC’s freshman dramas “Last Resort,” “Nashville” or “666 Park Avenue.” ABC’s other freshman comedy, “Malibu Country,” starring Reba McEntire, will premiere on Friday.
